Mental Health Awareness Week – Movement.

Mental Health Awareness week runs from 13 May 2024 – 19 May 2024. This years theme is Movement.

Finding time during your day to move about can protect mental health, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve sleep. Incorporating more movement into your daily routine is easier than you think. Use all the times that you find yourself “waiting”, waiting for the bus to come, waiting for the kettle to boil, waiting for your wife (or husband) to get ready for a night out 😊 to move about more, walking on the spot or stretching. Set yourself goals each day to increase your amount of movement and see how it effects your mental well being.

Every person has different kinds of exercise that they enjoy, chose one that makes you feel good, that way you are move likely to stick to it. Moving about outside in the fresh air is a great way to get moving and enjoying nature at the same time. Listening to your favourite feel good music to get you motivated and feeling energised is also a great way to get you motivated.

When your mental health is at a low point it is difficult to think about movement, when you cant even contemplate getting out of bed, however be proud of the small achievements on days like this.

Be proud of your achievements no matter how big or small, recognise your progress and reward yourself with something that you enjoy.
